Step 1: Purchase Soil Sample Submittal Form

Step 2: Check Your Email And Print Required Documents

Your Soil Sample Submittal Form AND receipt will be sent to your email. Print BOTH your Soil Sample Submittal Form and your receipt (for proof of purchase).

Step 3: Collect Your Soil Sample

You’ll need:

  • A shovel or soil probe
  • A bucket
  • A sturdy Ziploc bag

1. Take small, random samples from several spots in the area you plan to plant your food plot. The larger the area, the more samples you should take.

2. Combine all the samples in the bucket and mix the soil thoroughly.

3. Scoop at least 1 cup of the well-mixed soil into a Ziploc bag.

Step 4: Fill Out the Soil Sample Submittal Form

Include the following information:

  • YOUR ORDER NUMBER FROM YOUR RECEIPT AND THE TOTAL NUMBER OF SOIL SAMPLES ORDERED.
  • Your name, address, phone number, and email.
  • Whether the sample is from an existing food plot or a new one.
  • A name for your field (6 characters or less); write this clearly with permanent marker on the Ziploc bag as well as the Submittal Form.
  • The state where the plot is located.
  • Preferred delivery method for results (email is recommended for faster turnaround—usually within a few business days after the lab receives your sample)
  • The crop(s) you plan to grow—select up to two. If your crop isn’t listed (e.g., corn or soybeans), write it in the space provided.

Step 5: Attach the Soil Sample Submittal Form and Proof of Purchase to Your Sample

Securely attach the completed form to the matching Ziploc bag using a rubber band or stapler. If stapling, be careful not to puncture the bag. IMPORTANT - You must also attach your receipt/proof of purchase to the soil sample. We suggest rubber banding the documents to the Ziploc bag.

Step 6: Prepare for Shipping

Place your soil sample(s), with forms attached, into a box. You can include multiple samples in the same box. Pack tightly to minimize movement and prevent bags from tearing or opening.

Send your package to:

    Most important step

Posted by Mike on Oct 28th 2025

Hands down the most important step in a food plot program. It’s about half the price from other companies for the same information. Its easy to do all you do is go get dirt throu out plot and select what you wanna plant and they tell you how much lime and fertilizer to use.

I plant food plots in Pennsylvania and the soil sample offered from Magnet is hands down the best. Super easy and you get results emailed within a couple days of them receiving your sample. Highly recommend if you want your plot to do the best it can.

"Just as fast and just as good..." "I used to pay around $15 for a soil test, but last year I found Magnet Outdoors and got my test done for about $7 — half the price. The information I received was just as fast and just as good, if not better, than what I was getting before."

I received an email with in 24 hours of my soil sample being delivered to Magnet Outdoors Lab. You will not find another soil sample report this tailored to your soil and seed for under $8. The report is easy to understand with precise instructions for the seed that you have selected. Franklin, Pennsylvania.
